I have been actively involved with Labradors since 1983 with the purchase of my first CKC Reg’d Labrador Retriever when I was 16 – and registered my kennel name MAKTAWAE (now CKC Permanent Reg’d) in 1984. I am an active hunter and a CKC & Labrador Owners Club Life Member. I have been judging Labrador Retrievers and other Sporting Breed Sweepstakes since 2007. I am now a Licensed CKC Conformation Judge for Labrador Retrievers, and also Licensed for Retriever Hunt Tests (JH,SH,MH) ,Working Certificate Tests(WC,WCI,WCX) , Retriever Field Trials (Junior) and Pointing Field Dog Tests (FDJ,FD,FDA, WD). I am in the midst of working on my Conformation Permit to judge the Sporting Group. I have a small hobby breeding program celebrating 40 years this year with 1 to 2 quality litters a year. All of my dogs, whether they are titled or not, have the opportunity to be hunted over each year. I can proudly say I have bred/owned/handled dogs that have won BISSs, BISs, RBISs, Specialty wins (USA & Canada), #1, #2 #3 Conformation Labs in Canada on a few occasions, Qualified for Crufts, SAR dogs, Service dogs, breeder/co-owner of the 1st Lab in Canada to earn a Scent Discrimination Title, a number of family hunting/field titled dogs and multi titled dogs in a variety of other events

My passion for dogs started when I was in my teens for the Samoyed dogs. So when my husband and I were married we researched out several kennels and put down a deposit for our 1st one, and after only 2 years of owning a Samoyed we had gone from one to three, we were hooked. We joined CKC and the Samoyed Association of Canada, and now we have life membership status. Started showing both in confirmation and obedience and now at 40 years in the breed are still showing in Canada, and USA. Over our 40 years we have also had Nova Scotia Duck Tollers and several Irish Wolf Hounds. In 2010 I also started with Miniature Long Haired Dachshunds with my daughter. My mentor in both Judging and the Samoyeds and Dachshunds was Mrs. Betty McHugh. She was so wonderful a teacher.

I started working on my UKC judging licensee in 2019 and finished all of my assignments in 2022.

Over the years I have chaired 3 specialties for the Samoyed Association of Canada, been their Ontario Director for over 10 years. Joined the Samoyed Club of American, Dachshund Club of America and attended my judging workshops with both of these USA clubs. I have enjoyed much success with my Samoyeds and had the pleasure of owing two very special boys over my years as well has one very special Miniature Long Hair Dachshund boy and my Standard Long Hair girl. They have taken me all over Canada and the USA.
