Scent Detection

Scent detection training involves teaching dogs to search for specific odours in a fun, competitive setting. Based on the natural ability to use their sense of smell, the dogs are challenged to locate scents hidden in different environments. The sport builds teamwork between dog and handler, enhances the dog’s focus and confidence, and provides mental stimulation. Scent detection sports are growing in popularity as a rewarding activity for both dogs and their owners!
Our classes can be taken just for fun, or we can help you get to trial level!

Classes are held at our facility at 20 Upper Wellington St, Simcoe (Norfolk County)

Introduction to Scent Detection

Our Introduction to Scent Detection class is designed for beginners who want to explore the exciting world of scent work with their dogs. This class provides a foundation in scent detection by teaching your dog to recognize and search for specific odours. Using positive reinforcement, we will guide you and your dog through the basics of odor identification, searching techniques, and building the confidence needed for successful searches. Perfect for those looking for a fun, mentally stimulating activity, this class will help develop your dog’s natural abilities while strengthening your bond as a team. Whether you’re aiming for sport, or just a fun hobby, this introductory class will give you the skills to get started!

It is a 6 week course and the cost is $275 plus HST.

Requirements:
– Dogs age 6+ months
– Dog can be in a room with other dogs without being disruptive

Intermediate/Advanced Scent Detection

Our Intermediate/Advanced Scent Detection class is designed for dogs and handlers who have a foundational understanding of scent work and are ready to take their skills to the next level. In this class, we will build on search techniques, introducing more complex scent challenges, varied environments, and distractions to enhance your dog’s accuracy and focus. You’ll learn advanced handling techniques, improve your dog’s ability to work in different scenarios, and strengthen their response to specific scents. This class is ideal for those looking to advance in scent detection for sport, or personal enrichment. By the end of the course, your dog will have a more refined skill set and increased confidence in scent detection tasks. Our focus is on preparing for SDDA, UKC or CKC trials.

The investment is $275 plus HST for 6 weeks of class.

Scent Detection Trial Prep Drop In Class

Our Scent Detection Trial Prep Drop In Class is designed for dogs and handlers who have a solid understanding of scent work and are ready to take their skills to the next level and explore the world of trialing. In this class, we train in a variety of different locations and work on skills needed for trialing. We cover interior room, container, exterior, and vehicle searches similar to those you would find at a trial. Our focus is on preparing for SDDA, UKC or CKC trials.

The investment is $40 plus HST for current clients and $50 plus HST for non clients (a client is anyone who has done a training program with us in the past)

We meet most Saturday mornings at 10am and occasionally other days and times. Location varies.
