We have this conversation A LOT....people want their dogs to simply just not react. And it is possible to achieve that for sure. But for many dogs in order to get them to that point the owner needs to be 100% consistent and on top of managing and influencing their dog not to react. We also need to stop putting the dogs in situations that are too challenging for them which will in fact cause them to take steps backwards in training. And the reality is there may be some situations that will always be too hard for your dog.However, you may never get to the point where you aren't part of the equation. Many reactive dogs if left to their own devices would choose to continue reacting and will need you to manage and influence them for the rest of their lives.
