Bentley’s Challenge: Resource guarding high-value items such as bones and treats.
Training Approach: A 2-week Day School program with remote collar training to teach Bentley to drop items and respond calmly without guarding.
“Bentley did not have any discipline problems, except when it came to resource guarding high-value treats like bones.
As a new dog owner, I thought giving Bentley these treats would be a great way to keep him entertained and help minimize tartar buildup around his gums. However, it quickly became stressful because he would guard, growl, become still, and sometimes bite when you attempted to take them away.
The only way to safely remove the bone or high-value treat was when he finished or when there was a greater distraction.
With the e-collar and help from Katherine, I can now give Bentley high-value treats without worrying about resource guarding.
As soon as I tell him to “out” or “drop,” Bentley is able to walk away from the treat without growling or trying to guard it.”
